Today is the anniversary of the Holodomor Genocide in Ukraine and the people who lost their lives in the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
Every year on the fourth Saturday of November, Ukraine commemorates and remembers the Holodomor in front of this statue of a girl and pays tribute to those who died from starvation. The girl in the statue has sunken eyes and a slender body, and she holds an ear of grain with her bare feet.
Looking at her big eyes and gaunt body, I am reminded of the souls who lost their lives in the heinous crime of artificial starvation.
From 1921 to 1923, 1932 to 1933, and 1946 to 1947, the Soviet Union caused the genocide 'Holodomor' in Ukraine through exploitation and famine. At least 3 million and as many as 10 million Ukrainians lost their lives to starvation.
Beyond destroying a country through war, the war crime of causing starvation to exterminate a people is the most representative crime among the numerous genocides committed by the Soviet Union and Russia against Ukraine.
*The Holodomor became known to the world when Gareth Jones, a journalist from Wales, risked his life to report on it on March 31, 1933. The lie of "construction of the Soviet communist world" collapsed with the truth.
